The registration for Microsoft Ignite 2025 just opened, and a question I get often is: for Power Platform makers, which event should you attend between the Power Platform Community Conference or Microsoft Ignite?
Both conferences offer incredible value, but depending on your goals as a Power Platform user, one may be a better fit than the other. In this post, I’ll break down the key differences, cost considerations, and community input to help you make the most informed choice for your 2025 training budget.
Microsoft Ignite 2025 Overview
Microsoft Ignite is Microsoft’s flagship event for IT pros, developers, and tech leaders. The 2025 edition will take place November 17–21 in San Francisco. Expect big product announcements, executive keynotes, and hundreds of sessions across the Microsoft ecosystem.
For Power Platform users, Ignite provides broader context—how Power Platform integrates with services like Azure, Microsoft 365, and AI tools. It’s a great choice if you want a wide-angle view of Microsoft’s strategy and the future of business applications.
Power Platform Community Conference 2025 Overview
The Power Platform Community Conference (PPCC) is 100% focused on Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Pages. The 2025 edition takes place October 28–30 in Las Vegas, with optional workshops before and after.
Unlike Ignite, PPCC offers a concentrated learning experience for Power Platform practitioners, with hands-on workshops, real-world case studies, and more opportunities to meet product team members and MVPs.
Conference Content and Value
If your role spans multiple Microsoft tools or you want to see the big picture of Copilot, Azure, security, and Power Platform, Ignite is a solid bet. You’ll leave with insights that help you tie your Power Platform solutions to Microsoft’s broader roadmap.
But if you’re hands-on building apps, flows, dashboards, or pages, PPCC might be the better use of your time and budget. Every session is relevant, and the community vibe makes it easy to connect and learn from others solving similar challenges.
Something to also be aware is that most content from Microsoft Ignite will be available for free after the conference, while only recordings and some content will be available online. Another big difference is that Microsoft Ignite will only feature Microsoft Speakers (at like 99%) while PPCC will have a mix of Microsoft speakers and speakers from the community such as MVPs!
Cost, Travel, and Accommodations
Ignite’s full conference pass typically costs around $2325 (and more if you want workshops or priority keynote seating), while PPCC starts at $1849 (but can run up to $3647 if you add 3 workshop days). Flights to San Francisco and Las Vegas are comparable as they are quite close to each other, but Vegas hotels usually offer you more choices and more affordable options such as the Excalibur or New York New York which are a short walk from the conference center and much cheaper.
If your training budget is tight, PPCC25 may offer more bang for your buck. However, both events offer strong networking and learning value – you just need to choose which aligns better with your current needs.
The Parties & Social Scene
A part of the conference experience that often gets overlooked. The after-hours events.
Microsoft Ignite tends to have more vendor-sponsored parties throughout the week—everything from happy hours and rooftop events to full-blown live concerts. Microsoft also hosts a large conference-wide party midweek, but at the time of writing, 2025 party details haven’t been announced yet.
PPCC, on the other hand, offers a more intimate party vibe – think smaller but high-energy events where it’s easy to run into MVPs, speakers, and even members of the product teams. It might not have the glitz of a concert headliner (but we did have Carly Rae Jepsen in the past!) , but the connections and conversations go deeper.
Easier Access to Product Teams
If meeting Power Platform product managers and engineers is one of your goals, PPCC is where you’ll have more face time. It’s not uncommon to have lunch next to someone from the Power BI or Power Automate team—or even get direct feedback on your use case.
And yes, Charles Lamanna (Corporate Vice President, Business & Industry Copilot at Microsoft) will be walking around PPCC if you want to get a picture!
But if your goal is to talk to someone from Power Platform, Security, SharePoint, Teams, and more product Teams, Ignite will have representation from all Microsoft products.
