MCPD SharePoint 2010 to MCSD: SharePoint 2013 Upgrade Path Leaked!

Last month I did a post that interested most of the SharePoint Developers out there about the SharePoint 2013 MCSD Developer Certification Path!  That post contained 3/4 of the exams required for someone who doesn’t have the MCPD SharePoint 2010 Certification.

At the time of the post, the only information available on the Upgrade was the following:

Q.I have an MCPD on Visual Studio 2010. How can I upgrade to an MCSD certification?

A.If you have achieved an MCPD: Windows Developer 4 certification, MCPD: Web Developer 4 certification, or MCPD: SharePoint Developer 2010 certification, you will be able to earn an MCSD certification on the corresponding solution by passing two exams.

However, the full (unofficial  but very likely ) upgrade path has been leaked in the Certification Planner from Microsoft (Many Thanks to Mahmoud Hamed)
The two exams are
1. 70-480 (PS: You can take this exam for free at the moment. more info HERE)
2. 70-493 Upgrade your MCPD: SharePoint Developer 2010 to MCSD: SharePoint Apps

EDIT:  All the Details about full path to  MCSD SharePoint are here: Three New Facts on the SharePoint 2013 MCSD Certification! – A Name, Exam Numbers and a Date!

Other New Information

We can also see in the picture (Thanks Bjoern) that now we got names for the 70-489 and 70-488 Exam.

Exam 70-488 SharePoint REST will probably be about the SharePoint 2013 REST Service

Exam 70-489 SharePoint Collaboration ( In the screenshot it’s spelled “Colloboration”. )

The name is too vague for any information, however if I find anything I will update the post!

This is great news for SharePoint Developers because they will only need two exams to get the new certification!

    HI Vlad
Some extra info there in the image that I haven’t seen before. Exam 488 is subtitled “Collaboration” while for 489 it’s “REST”:

Hi, I’m the Content Publishing Manager here at Microsoft Learning for “Office” certifications and courseware. I planned the SharePoint, Exchange and Lync exams and my team is building the Microsoft official Courseware (MOC) that maps to those technologies. I just wanted to clarify a few things about the SP Dev track:

First, thanks for pointing out that our cert planner tool is woefully out of date. We had kicked around the idea for the track that you’ve listed above but that was more than 8 months ago. I hadn’t realized our backend folks actually put that scratch track into the system. We’re going to get that fixed.

Second, I wanted to share with you the actual track we’re going to use for the MCSD: SharePoint Applications (real track name). While there is no MCSA type “core”, there are several prerequisites to achieve your MCSD: 70-480 + 70-486 + the two SharePoint Developer exams (70-488 & 70-489). I’ve listed the links to the two SharePoint exams below but they won’t be live until we are closer to the betas. Speaking of which, we’re expecting the beta of the SP Dev exams to be available the first week of April and run until the exams go “live” the first week in July.

We should have all this detail up on the MSL SharePoint landing pages soon but I saw your post and I wanted to make sure you guys have the latest info.

Thanks for your interest in the SharePoint certifications!

Also, I am not sure If I understand correctly, but is the “Upgrade Path” valid (70-480 + 70-493) or not.

      Thank you!
      Vlad

Certification is absolutely worth the investment. As people are looking to upgrade to the new solution they will be looking for certified consultants for assistance.

    J. Seymour

the ITPro SharePoint 2013 courses go live at the end of March/very early April.

The 70-493 exam doesn’t exist. There is an upgrade path for the windows MCSA if you are an MCITP but not for the dev side as we don’t have a formal “core” that everything sits on.
